A Professional Setback Became My Boldest Leap Forward
I’m Amber Washington, a communications strategist, certified coach, and founder of Agency Five20. For more than 15 years, I helped leaders and organizations strengthen internal communications, creating workplaces where people feel connected, informed, and valued.
I shaped communications across sectors, including a national foundation, a public service agency, and both publicly traded and private corporations. Along the way, I saw two recurring challenges: communications professionals doing high-impact work, yet not fully recognized as strategic leaders; and organizations doing incredible work externally while struggling to maintain trust, clarity, and alignment internally.
That’s the spark behind my work: empowering communicators to step into greater influence and helping organizations to build connected cultures where people and missions thrive.

Agency Five20 was inspired by a personal turning point. A couple of months before my birthday May 20, I learned that my corporate role was ending due to an acquisition. I didn’t feel fear or resentment. Instead, I felt a quiet certainty that it was time to lead myself forward with the same confidence and strategic vision I help others build. The name honors that date, a marker of both my birth and a new beginning, and symbolizes a business rooted in growth and possibility.
